How to Make Trash Service More Earth-Friendly

When it comes to being eco-friendly, even your trash plays an important role. There are certain trash disposal methods that are known to be better for the planet and that can be used in your home or business. Here are four great ways to make trash service more Earth-friendly.

Recycle

You already know the importance of recycling paper, plastic, and aluminum, but you might be surprised to learn about the other items that can be recycled instead of discarded in the trash. According to The Daily Meal, old mobile phones and other electronic devices are recyclable. Batteries are recyclable as well. Even your old music CDs and DVDs can be recycled instead of hauled to landfills. Recycling programs for coloring crayons have been created to help the environment. Any compact fluorescent lightbulbs (CFLs) that you have should be recycled to prevent mercury leaks into soil.

Turn Garbage into Compost

In addition to recycling, much of your garbage can be turned into compost and used as soil fertilizer. You can buy a composter for your kitchen and use it to hold certain trash items. The composter will then eventually turn your trash into suitable compost material that can be used in your lawn and garden to help your grass, plants, and flowers grow healthier. Some items that can go into your compost bin include food scraps, napkins, and paper plates.

Rent a Dumpster

Renting a dumpster will be especially beneficial if your home or business is undergoing a construction project. Having a dumpster handy can keep unwanted materials from being littered on your property or street. One of the main benefits of renting a dumpster is that you won’t have to endure the expense of purchasing one, and you can have your waste hauled away whenever the dumpster gets full.

Make Less Waste

One of the simplest ways to make your trash better for the environment is to produce less of it. Mother Earth Living suggests using your cut grass and raked leaves as mulch. Buying fewer new products and reusing old ones can cut down on the amount of garbage that you accumulate. You can also reduce your waste by purchasing items in bulk, which often don’t require as much packaging materials.

If you want to do more for the planet, finding ways to improve your trash disposal will be an excellent start. By getting rid of your garbage more responsibly, you’ll help the environment in more ways than you’ve imagined.
