Wood or Plastic: Which is a Better Pallet Choice for a Business?

Even before plastic was introduced for pallets by the packaging manufacturers wood used to be the basic standard materials in order to prepare the products for their potential shipments, organizations use wood as a popular material these days as basic packaging material. Wood Pallets And Their Significance:

1. Safety from Fire: Companies that are in the packaging and warehouse storage business consider fire as one of the crucial elements to consider when choosing pallets. Wood is flammable and often he is the first response. This is mainly because wood is often used for lighting to keep the home interiors warm or camping. However, when burnt, the rates of wood-based pallets and plastics were compared non-scientifically the results were astounding. Plastic pallets when ignited not just that faster than wood but also generated much more heat as well. Moreover, the plastic melted and dripped and burned over the floor also causing damage to the floor. Sprinkler system was used, and this did not work well to extinguish the fire when used over plastic as compared to wood.

The wood pallets, on the other hand, maintained the baselines of the standard fire ration ranked by NFPA or National Fire Protection Association. As per the experts, plastic needs more upgrading to be on par with wood. From the commercial point of view, wood is hence a better pallet choice than plastics.

The Sustainability Element: Every business organization which exists in the 21st century aims in making environment business process, product and services so that the environment can be safeguarded. Initially, you might think that wood is fetched from trees and hence plastics are the greener alternative. However, be ready to hear that this is not true. This is because the footprint in which plastic leaves in the environment is worse. The timber, on the other hand, makes wood-based pallets as byproducts created from main sectors like housing construction, flooring, and furniture. Moreover, trees can be grown back repeatedly and replanted and the industry can be fairly sustained. This makes wood a better sustainable product than plastics.

3. Flexibility and Strength: The weight to the strength ratio is good for both wood as well as plastic. Components of wood, however, can be gathered very easily and be configured in as well. Even a scrap wooden lumber can help out the business by making them pallets. ON the other hand, plastic needs specialized efforts and a lot of energy consumption to make them specifically for the purpose. Wood is strong, flexible and also a practical material. Repairing wooden pallets are easier than plastic pallets.

Pallets are essential to store goods and without this, the business cannot survive at all.  Redesigning and costing of wood based pallets are much more practical and profitable than plastics.
