A Lesson in Green Technology from Today’s Local Farmers

Local farms see the benefit of using a lot of green technology and techniques, and here we can learn some important lessons from them.

It is evident that green technology is vital to the health of our environment and even the planet as a whole.

The new, green technologies developed today, help us conserve power and water and also work to reduce our carbon footprint and impact on the environment.

Without green technology, we would use up our natural resources faster than they could be restored. Local farms see the benefit of using a lot of green technology and techniques, and here we can learn some important lessons from them.

Water Conservation

Water is a vital resource. Only a small percentage of the earth’s water supply is drinkable, and it is critical to do everything we can to conserve our supply of fresh water. Local farmers have already been doing this much more effectively than mass farms who take up most of the planet’s fresh water sources.

Local farms often use a system called recirculation. This is a process that collects water that is not used by plants. A water collection system is placed under the plants. When the plants use up the water, they only take in as much as they need. The recirculation system collects the unused water, so it is not wasted.
Farmers are also helping the environment by collecting rainwater. This might sound simple, but some farmers report collecting four weeks’ worth of water with only four hours of rain. It’s a technology in the past that still has benefits today.

Solar Power

Fossil fuels are a major source of our energy. However, these fuels are a limited resource, and put a lot of pollution into the air. The use of fossil fuels significantly contributes to our carbon footprint and contributes to increased climate change. But some local farmers have decided to do something about it.
To reduce their carbon footprint, many farmers have turned to solar panels. Solar panels placed in empty fields transfer power from the sun into usable electricity. Using solar panels reduces carbon footprint impacts and saves money. Other sustainable energy sources are also being explored here from water to wind.

Windmills

Windmills are another way farmers are saving money and helping the environment. Like solar panels, windmills are a source of renewable energy, and are safe for the environment. Windmills are set up in fields and other open areas. As wind turns the turbine, it generates electricity. The electricity can be stored in batteries or used right way. The power from the windmills is used to power barn lights and other farm equipment.

This is also a technology that was useful in the past, and is still being utilized today. Newer wind powered turbines are often bigger than small windmills, but are also useful in bigger agricultural productions. To operate these though, you’ll need personnel equipped with the right knowledge and education like an online safety bachelor’s degree, since these operations often take more than just a few people to maintain and protect.

All in all, we can learn a lot from the way local and big farms use green technology. We can help the environment by using solar panels, windmills, and collecting rain water. These small, simple steps go a long way in preserving and protecting our natural resources.
