Japan Gifts 150 Green Cars to Siberia; Move Aims at Boosting Eco-friendly Initatives

You certainly cant turn a blind eye on certain deeds. Even if that means crossing international boundaries, that is!  In an act that stands out as a global example, Japan has handed over around 150 eco-friendly vehicles to the Siberian Government.

Never assume this was a part of any bilateral agreement reached by the duo. In fact, the donation was carried out to boost the eco-friendly approach of Siberia, which includes environment protection and cost-reduction measures.

Masafumi Kuroki, the Japanese Ambassador in Serbia, handed over the keys to Serbian Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic. On behalf of its citizens, he said that the country acknowledges the contributions Japan has been making since the occurrence of flood disaster last year in Siberia. He also expressed that the act will reflect the significance of creating awareness towards environmental issues.

The green cars donated are hybrid models are aimed at cutting down on fuel usage, thus effectively bringing down air pollution. They include 11 Toyota Prius, 22 Lexus and 117 Mazda 3 hybrid cars. The net-worth of the donation is around EUR 3.5 million.

Since 1999, Japan has made a net contribution of EUR 460 million which also includes the donation of 93 city buses to the city of Belgrade in 2003.

Recently, France has also made a contribution of EUR 1 million to effectively help Siberia recover from the disaster and to move towards better protection of environment in the coming days.
