On the occasion of World Meteorological Day, China Meteorological Administration has revealed that the country’s temperature since the past sixty years has been increasing at rates double to that of in the remaining nations.
Since the middle of the 20th century, the nation had been witnessing a temperature rise by 0.23 Celsius, which is double the rate at which the rest of the nations get boiled up. The matter was revealed by Zheng Guoguang, head of the CMA.
He assessed that the increasing rise in temperature is putting the likes of agricultural production and water supplies to peril. Safety of projects with strategic importance such as the Three Gorges Dam and the South-North Water Diversion Project is also having an adverse impact.
Alongside bringing in ecological disturbance, the rise in temperature has also accounted for a one-percent drop in the GDP of the nation. That’s eight times higher than that of in the remaining nations since 2000.
The National Development and Reform Commission had previously drafted a blueprint to cut CO2 greenhouse emission by around 5% in 2025. The measure, which stressed on the adaptation with climatic change, was also the first of the strategic layout that was enforced by the nation with respect to the climatic changes.
