Many people are trying to find apartments in the heart of Houston and other major metropolitan cities. While you may eventually be able to find one, chances are it’s not going to be a penthouse suite. Still, despite living on a budget, you probably want your place to look really nice when you invite over guests. To help, below are seven cheap ways to make your apartment look like a million dollars.
1. Print Your Artwork
Instead of paying for expensive artwork, simply print your own. Find a high resolution photo of an image you like and take it to a local printing service. You can then use a cheap frame to hold the image on your wall. Chances are that it will look just as impressive as the real thing.
2. Use a Large Rug
Some rooms in apartments may seem small. One way you can create the illusion of a larger space is by using an extra large throw rug. You could even tape together several smaller rugs to make one big one.
3. Take Advantage of Mirrors
Another simple way to create the illusion of a larger space in a small room is to use mirrors. Add some vanity mirrors in strategic places such as behind your couch.
4. Use Negative Space in Shelving
Cluttered shelves tend to give a room an almost claustrophobic feel. While you can use your shelves to store items, try to include some negative space. It will give the shelving a far more attractive appearance.
5. Create a Focal Point
One thing that can certainly give a room a very classy feel is the existence of a focal point. However, you don’t have to spend money on an expensive sculpture from an art gallery to have one. Visit local antique stores to find something classy that you can get for cheaper. If you’re an artist, create one on your own.
6. Buy Some Used Coffee Table Books
You don’t have to spend a lot of money to obtain good coffee table books to replace cheaper looking options like magazines. You can buy them used and get them in almost as good as condition as new. Check out used book stores, antique stores and online retailers like Amazon.com.
7. Get Rid of Clutter
A cluttered space never looks attractive. Get rid of some of the stuff you don’t need that serves no purpose to open up the space. Either put those items in a closet or donate them to charity.
