More than 4000 delegates from 35 countries will converge in the South Indian city of Kochi, Kerala, for what would be the largest ever conclave of Ayurveda fraternity in the world. The Global Ayurveda Festival & Arogya Expo (GAF) will get kickstarted in on February 20, 2014 and would run till February 24.
A Sri Lankan delegation comprising the nation’s Health Minister, a 50 member delegation from Germany and teams from countries such as Argentina, the UK, Italy, Singapore, and many more have confirmed their participation. As many as 350 foreign delegates will be participating.
With a focus on the strengths of Ayurveda in public health, in the context of the growing burden of new age communicable diseases, it has been decided that the central theme of this edition of GAF will be Ayurveda in Public Health.
Though the potential of Ayurveda in Public Health is huge, it has unfortunately not been tapped to full potential till date. In this context, the central theme of Ayurveda in Public Health will be one major aspect of deliberations at GAF 2014.
Various sub themes for the event would include various Clinical Specialties in Ayurveda, Non Communicable Diseases, Medicinal Plants, Clinical and literary Research in Ayurveda, Cosmetology, Nutrition and a variety of other related topics.
High profile programmes will include an international seminar, which would be an international academic platform for exchanging clinical experiences and broadening academic horizons.
This apart, a mega exhibition that would provide an insight into the living tradition of Ayurveda, a host of workshops, practical demonstrations, scientific and business programs and more, would be part of the GAF 2014.
GAF 2014 will also facilitate active interaction between the global Ayurveda community, students, paramedics, medicinal plant cultivators, traders, patient groups and the general public.
Apart from the International Seminar themed Ayurveda in Public Health, and the Arogya Expo, GAF 2014 would also include Ayurveda Solidarity Meets, Cultural Meet, Political Leaders’ Meet, Media Meet, International Business Meet, International Cooperation Meet, Ayurveda Education Expo, Medicinal Plants Expo, AYUSH Clinics, Pre Conference Workshops, Netrachikitsa and Panchakarma offerings.
The event will also host specialty clinics (free for the public) and an Ayurveda Education Expo, which will have participants from colleges that teach the Ayurveda system of medicine. These apart, delegates will be able to enjoy guided tours to Centres of Clinical Excellence in Ayurveda and Accredited herbal drug and cosmetic manufacturing units. Cultural Programmes, Public Awareness Programmes, Road shows, a Documentary Film Festival and a Photography Competition will be part of the GAF 2014.
This biggest ever summit on Ayurveda, and is being organized by the Centre for Innovation in Science & Social Action (CISSA), the Government of Kerala and the Ayurveda fraternity of Kerala, represented by AMAI, AMMOI, AMHA, KISMA, ADMA and many others.
