Twins Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen angered PETA activists for launching a $16,900 backpack made from assorted sets of animal fur. The erstwhile child actors received the 2012 Council of Fashion Designers of America Award, a few weeks back for their work with The Row. This persuaded People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals to recall its old monikers for the twins: “Hairy Kate and Thrashley” or otherwise known as “Trollsen Twins”.
The animal rights group stated that, what the Olsens lack in creativity, they make up for in shock value. It is the foxes, calves and the alligators- who often have the fur ripped off them while they are conscious and able to feel the pain.
A black-alligator version of the backpack was released last year for a thrifty $34,000.
Brickbats apart, the bag has caught the attention of celebrity stylist Rachael Zoe who cited on her blog that the bag is a combination of “comfort and class”. She also added that, it would go well with a blush blouse, skinny jeans and a bold boot.
The PETA is holding a grudge against the glamorous duo over the years for their use of fur, including their own wardrobe. The group said that if it looks like a troll and acts like a troll its probably a Trollsen Twin.
