Ever since 2009, Tesla had been planning to build the Model S, expected to be the most innovative car of the 21st century. The Model S is said to be capable of setting a new standard for efficiency, safety, style, technology, operating cost and performance.

The Tesla Model S EV is available with three battery options – 40 kWh, 60 kWh and 85 kWh.

EPA has officially rated the vehicle’s top version with an 85 kWh battery with a range of 285 miles on a single charge, where Tesla originally estimated the Model S with a range of 300 miles with the 85 kWh battery pack.

Even with this range Tesla Model S is the longest driving range EV on the market.

The Model S can accommodate upto seven passengers. The company is planning to manufacture 20,000 cars by the end of 2013.

The price range starts from $49,900 to the base model after available Federal tax credits of $7,500.

The Model S will be available in Europe and Asian markets from early and mid 2013. The company already received over 10,000 reservations worldwide for the Model S.
