Tesla’s most awaited Model S electric sedan has hit the street a month ahead of schedule. The event happened in front of Tesla’s factory. Ever since 2009, Tesla had been planning to build the Model S, expected to be the most innovative car of the 21st century. The Model S is said to be capable of setting a new standard for efficiency, safety, style, technology, operating cost and performance.
The Tesla Model S EV is available with three battery options – 40 kWh, 60 kWh and 85 kWh.
EPA has officially rated the vehicle’s top version with an 85 kWh battery with a range of 285 miles on a single charge, where Tesla originally estimated the Model S with a range of 300 miles with the 85 kWh battery pack.
Even with this range Tesla Model S is the longest driving range EV on the market.
The Model S can accommodate upto seven passengers. The company is planning to manufacture 20,000 cars by the end of 2013.
The price range starts from $49,900 to the base model after available Federal tax credits of $7,500.
The Model S will be available in Europe and Asian markets from early and mid 2013. The company already received over 10,000 reservations worldwide for the Model S.
