On the occasion of World Environment Day, Brazil’s Rio de Janeiro got all decked for Mother Earth. The Green Nation Fest events that went on from May 31 to June 7 at Rio had a high profile visitor this time around. .
Apart from Brazilian Environment Minister Izabella Teixeira, Rio Mayor Eduardo Paes; UNEP Executive Director, Achim Steiner, and hundreds of school children who attended the event, the arrival of international supermodel Gisele Bündchen on the eve of the festival made the venue roar in excitement.
Bündchen is the Goodwill Ambassador of UNEP, and her presence helped draw the attention of young people and inspire them to action.
Apart from posing for the cameras she also took part in some manual labor and tree planting. Gisele met with Green Nation Fest director, Marcos Didonet and took a look at some DIY crafts created by the local children.
The children used materials such as soda can tabs, buttons and fabric in creating stylish goods such as friendship bracelets, 3D art and decorative animal figures.
This time Green Nation Fest was a bit more exciting as crowds of hundreds of students and members of the press were part of the festival.
The hardwork of UNEP, the volunteers, and all the traditional and social media and also the enthusiastic crowd made the festival a grand affair many would want to emulate.
