PETA, the animal rights advocates, has launched a new animal rights campaign. This time, they raise their voices for fishes. The organization is targeting celebrity chefs and their fans. PETA released a new video which is titled as “Silent Scream” shows the silent screams and pain fish feel when being killed and cooked.
In their “groundbreaking new fish empathy public service announcement”, PETA is specifically targeting FOX and Gordon Ramsay’s “Hell’s Kitchen” and wants to air the ad on the network.
PETA writes a letter to the network saying that contestants on “Hell’s Kitchen” choose to subject themselves to harassment in the kitchen. But the animals cut up and cooked on the show don’t have any choice and they lose not just their pride but their lives as well. Airing the video during the show would remind its viewers that no one has any right to intimidate, exploit, or hurt others–regardless of which species they are. We can understand that it is an open attack on the show.
According to the senior vice president of PETA Lisa Lange, it is easier to identify with our favorite “Hell’s Kitchen” contestants than with the fish they fillet and sauté, but fish feel pain and fear, and they suffer enormously when they are impaled, crushed, suffocated, or cut open and gutted, all while they’re fully conscious.
Silent Scream tells that we have no right to hurt others simply because they are weaker than us and can’t speak up for themselves.
Well, any celebrity chef out there is listening?
