The Monster Sport E-Runner Pikes Peak Special got unveiled at Toyota’s Mega Web automotive theme park in Tokyo. This awkwardly shaped electric car appears to be a very powerful and holds a pod like driver capsule. The car possesses a full carbon body with a bubble roof. The vehicle has been developed by Team APEV, the Association for the Promotion of Electric Vehicles.
The E-Runner will be driven by Nobuhiro “Monster” Tajima to pursuit his seventh straight Unlimited class win.
The racer has been winning the contest for the last six years and on June 26, 2011, Tajima bested his own record and broke the “10-minute barrier” of the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb with a time of 9:51.278. But that was in the electric power car.
Tajima is not the single battery-powered racer on the mountain this year. Another eight cars have also entered in the Electric Division, which includes an i-MiEV Prototype car piloted by Hiroshi Masuoka, using the same core components as the production i-MiEV.
This time around, Team APEV and Monster Sports will be participating to help the victims of the 2011 Great East Japan Earthquake disaster as well as promoting environmental education projects for children and projects to support active participation from the senior citizens ofJapan.
If you are looking for the specifications of the E-Runner, let’s tell you nothing has been revealed as yet. However, we think it will feature two motors and regenerative brakes.
