It seems that Apple is taking great efforts to disprove green peace’s accusation that its NC data center will be powered by coal.
But rejecting all these accusations, Apple has posted a new page in its website which reveals all the information and plans of their renewable energy at its data center.
Apple had already announced their plans to build a 20 MW solar array installation and a 5 MW fuel cell installation at the NC data center. These projects are expected to fulfill 60 % of the data centre’s electricity needs. But now Apple is doubling its on-site solar power capacity by building a second 20MW array.
That means a total solar power generation of 84 million kWh per year. This is the largest private solar power generation in the country. A report suggests that SunPower Corp will be the installer for this high-efficiency solar array and it will include an advanced solar tracking system.
Company will purchase renewable power from local and regional sources to meet its remaining energy needs. This NC data centre is planning to be coal-power-free by the end of the year. In addition to that, company’s future data center in Prineville,Oregonwill use power from local, renewable sources only. And data center in Austin,TXwill run fully on purchased renewable power.
Apple is now registering all of its on-site power generation with the North Carolina Renewable Energy Tracking System (NC-RETS) established by the North Carolina Utilities Commission.
