The biggest difficulty dog owners face these days is that they find it tough to leave their pets unattended at home when they are away. In a bid to address the problem once and for all, DogVacay now offers to take care of your puppy – and that too for a nominal rate.
DogVacay lets you drop off your canine at the home of a fellow dog lover while you’re away. The rates are usually $15 to $80 a day. It’s free to become a member, and more than 400 hosts have already joined in the Los Angeles and San Francisco areas.
Hosts share information about themselves and their experience with animals on the site and they’re encouraged to post photo updates of the guest dog so that the real owners can check their pets while on vacation.
Pet owners also leave reviews of their experiences after they pick up their dogs.
The website says that there’s a big difference between watching 3 dogs and several hundred. In a home environment one’s dog receives more care and personalized attention from a true dog lover and it’s like dropping them off at your favorite aunt’s house.
Doggie hosts are selected with a range of criteria in mind, such as background checks, completion of web-based training and emergency certifications, and interviews conducted by DogVacay staff.
The startup was founded by husband-wife team Aaron Hirschhorn and Karine Nissim Hirschhorn. In addition to providing a vacation-like boarding experience for dogs with insured and verified hosts, the startup will serve as a marketplace for other services, including training, walking, and pet massage. Are you somewhere around a DogVacay home?
