Michel Motorsports Gitano EV Sports Car Shown at SEMA 2011

Dreaming of taking a spin around town in a electric sports car? Michel Motorsports has unveiled their new sports car Gitano, an EV at the SEMA 2011 convention at Las Vegas, Nevada, US. Gitano is the company’s first original design effort.

The company based in the Philippines had been building replicas of classic sports cars over the past 23 years. Gitano is an efficient EV with a 150 KW electric motor with sundry supporting components.

An amazing feature of Gitano is that it can pump out 300 Nm of torque continuously from 0 to 5,000 RPM.

Under the hood is a 25 KW range-extending rotary engine that can help the car travel additional miles past the 100 mile all-electric range!

In the case of a long distance run , Gitano runs on peak efficiency to pump energy back into the battery pack.

Michel Motorsports has also displayed an all-electric version that is specifically made to be used in conversions of BWM E46. The company says it will be available in the market by the second quarter of 2012.

It is said to be the first of all modular systems with a range of outputs from 65 to 1,000+ hp.

The price or the availability of Gitano in the market have not been revealed as yet. The company says the first models will be built in Britain and there will be options other than electric drivetrain.

The company will offer a variant powered by LS-series gen IV V8 capable of 430 hp and 424 lb-ft of torque.
