The American magazine ‘Popular Mechanics’, dealing with day to day articles such as automotive, technology, science, home journals, outdoors, electronics and telecommunications and photography, declared this year’s ‘Pop Mech breakthrough Awards’ at Hearst Tower in New York City for honoring personals those who envisioned new dimensions in innovative tech space. That includes six ingenious innovations which help revolutionizing our green environments and has enlisted for your interest.
‘Dr .Paul. L. Edmiston’, one of the founders of ABSMaterials Inc developed this nano scale organic glass called Osorb, an extreme absorptive which doesn’t absorb water, turned to be one of most effective ingredient in water treatments and oil purification. Since its absorption quality it is being widely used in natural gas fracking sites and for the purification of municipal water, purging chlorinated solvents, toxins and hydrocarbons. Also used in oil spills for petroleum solvents. Osorb highly effective and can be regenerated without any harmful residues for further use.
Solaria PV Panel
The most efficient renewable energy will be the solar energy. Solar panels have impeccable role in green making. As we know the solar panels comprises majority silicon content which explains its heavy production cost. With Solaria Photovoltaic monocrystalline panels uses polarized glass lens to direct light into solar cells making 50 to 70 percent less silicon resulting a cheap durable panel.
BoralPure Smog Eating Tiles
Most of iconic sculptures are tainting due to air pollutants. BoralPure Smog Eating tiles can limit the contaminants to some extend; as it is coated with titanium-dioxide which can neutralize nitrogen oxide particles forming harmless accumulates which can be washed away. Adopting these titles can save some air, which costs $650 more than a standard tile roof panning for 2500-sq ft.
Philips AmbientLED Bulb
The Philips AmbientLED bulb is the first solid replacement to the common 60 watt incandescent and also the first to earn ENERGY STAR qualification. The AmbientLED bulb only uses 12.5 watt, means upto 80 percent energy save with subsequent reduction in carbon emission and possesses a life time of 25,000 hours. This breakthrough replacement to the current LED technology uses remote phosphor technology which creates hue to soften the lightening imparting a highly sustainable and environmental bulb. And it only costs $25.
Makani Power Flying Wind Turbine
Turbines seeking wind, that’s what ‘Makani Power Flying Wind Turbine’ does. This smaller plane like turbines can fly 1,500 heights to extract the full potential of wind energy. Ground fitted windmills can only produce 30-35 percentage of their expected power since the atmosphere conditions. But reaching these heights were the constant air flows, these turbines can belt three times faster than the grounded ones. For flying conditions these turbines are made with light weight hardware. Corwin Hardham, Kenny Jensen, Damon Vander Lind are the guys behind this project.
West Philly Hybrid X Team
Looks like these students had done some pretty impressive job getting 160 MPGE out of a hybrid electric car. The West Philly Hybrid X Team, a group of students from 10th, 11th and 12th with the help of their advisor, Simon Hauger, made this outstanding project.
