Renault will launch its electrified version of Twingo minicar called Twingo Z.E. (Zero Emission). The vehicle is scheduled to hit the showrooms by the second half of 2014. The launch was announced at a media event in Rome. Jacques Bousquet, head of Renault’s Italy division, spoke on the occasion.
He highlighted the manufacturer’s alliance with Daimler AG and acknowledged the same which resulted in an earlier-than-expected launch date for the Twingo Z.E.
Bousquet also added that Renault will eventually expand its electric van lineup beyond the battery-powered Kangoo. Well, this plan indicates that we could expect more plug in autos from the company.
The partnership between Renault-Nissan and Daimler aims at creating a combined platform that is likely to underpin the next-generation Twingo eventually.
Earlier this was to be the basis for a four-door model sold under the Smart banner, but now Penske has been bailed on the Smart distribution deal
Twingo Z.E. is supposed to be the fifth vehicle in the battery powered range of the company which includes the Kangoo, Fluence, Twizy and Zoe.
