The Eco Fashion Week, set to get underway in Vancouver from September 27 – 30, will be celebrating responsible fashion, refine sustainable industry practices and inform people about the importance of eco-friendly fashion. It will showcase designers that incorporate recycled materials and organic, renewable materials in their designs.
Gisele Bundchen, Supermodel and environmentalist, is the Goodwill Ambassador for the Environment for EFW. At the event, she will be working with SIGG Canada to launch a new designer water bottle which promises to be plastic bottle-free.
The event will be featuring the works of many Canadian designers including Nicole Bridger and Erika Mullens. Bridger, who has always been committed to sustainable designs, had won the first Fashion Takes Action Design Forward award last month.
Erika Mullens, whose garments are made from environmentally friendly fabrics that travel well and require minimum care (saving both effort and energy), makes her designs from lightweight fabrics. The entire week’s wardrobe can be packed in a carry-on bag, saving time, space and emissions.
They challenge their customers to look behind the label to understand why and how a garment has been made; Mullens has been quoted as saying by Torontosun. She also said that the way that her team manufacture and market their products illustrates their ongoing commitment to the environment.
The event will also feature talk sessions from well known designers such as Stella McCartney, Marc Jacobs, Narcisco Rodriguez, Donna Karan, Burberry, Jil Sander, Versace, Ralph Lauren, and Calvin Klein.
