UST Global a California based IT company with a major chunk of operations in India celebrated World Environment Day with a Corporate Social Responsibility week at its Infopark campus in Kerala. The techies at UST Global showed their hearts were in the right place, and they also walked the talk of living green, in solidarity with Mother Nature.
The SoS Children’s Village at Aluva, near Kochi in Kerala, was witness to the first phase of the program as the employees of UST Global – USsociates, as they are called – conducted a session on ‘How Mother Nature is Impacted by Human Invasion’. The group engaged in an interactive question and answer session, which was followed by planting saplings in front of each house.
Volunteers from UST Global also donated books, bags and dress material to the students of Sree Narayana Vilasam Sanskrit UP School, Eroor, Kochi. Sunil Balakrishnan, Head of UST Global’s Kochi centre, spoke to the little ones on how values and passion are essential for one to come up in life. Shini K G, Head Mistress of the school expressed her gratitude telling us how the children of the 7th standard gifted erasers and pencils to their juniors using the little money they saved last year. They were emulating what UST Global’s employees did to them, according to her.
‘Vision 2010’ was the apt name given to the second leg of the program. In collaboration with Vasan eye care and Little Flower Hospital, UST Global organized an eye donation campaign where more than 100 employees pledged to donate their eyes to help the people living in the dark. The eye donation drive will continue through the week.
Shifting focus to the budding techies in the community, UST Global also conducted a Student Leadership program at its Kochi center in the Infopark Campus on 10th June, 2010. Rajagiri School of Engineering and Technology, Kakkanad, Sahrdaya College of Engineering and Technology, Kodakara, Jyothi Engineering College, Trissur, St. Joseph College of Engineering and Technology, Pala, Amrita School of Engineering, Amrithapuri, and Amal Jyoti College of Engineering, Kanjirappally – all partner colleges of UST Global – were chosen to participate in the day long program. Aimed at Leadership Skill Development, Management Games, Communication Assessment and Training, the session also included a panel discussion on Women Leadership. “Consider myself lucky to be selected to attend the program… much above expectations… a day to remember… would love to come back – for another workshop and to work for UST Global”, said a visibly excited Ashika Alexander of Rajagiri School of Engineering and Technology, Kakkanad.
Three charitable institutions Sevashram, Shanti Bhavan and Snehanilayam were invited to showcase their products as part of the CSR week. On display was a varied array of items ranging from organic products, handicrafts, pickles and ornaments. Employees of UST Global made the most of this golden opportunity to contribute to charity through something as enjoyable as shopping. Sales were brisk and a significant amount was collected by the three organizations. The event culminated with a thrilling auction that generated excitement and additional funds towards institutions supporting mentally challenged children.
Also on the anvil for CSR week is the donation of library books to the Government Girls High School, Tripunithura, Kochi. Employees of UST Global have chipped in generously for the purpose, contributing books as well as funds for procuring more books. A fitting bunch of employees for an organization built on a tradition of values and culture, aimed at transforming lives of people in the community they work in.
