Marks & Spencer goes green, converting wine bottles to eco-friendly containers

m&s

In a move towards being eco-friendly, Marks & Spencer is transforming all its small bottles of wine into plastic containers. It has been reported that the company’s 25cl still wine bottles will be the first to be converted into plastic bottles. Other sizes will be added to the scheme later on. M&S sells close to one lakh small bottles every week.

The new bottles will be made of polyethylene terephthalate. Significant about them would be that they would be 88 per cent lighter than traditional glass bottle packaging, require less energy to produce, and reduce the load required to transport them.

The company feels that the new eco-friendly bottles would be lighter so that customers would find it easy for them to carry the bottles. With Marks & Spencer  going the green way, other majors such as Sainsbury’s and Waitrose are also mulling over doing an encore.
