Car major Jaguar is lining up the launch of a hybrid model by 2013-14. The hybrid car is expected to have under the hood a 3.0-liter V6 turbodiesel engine, a 35 kW (47 hp / 48 PS) electric motor, and an eight-speed ZF automatic transmission. It is being reported that the hybrid Jaguars are most likely to include the XJ and XF versions. And later on, every model in the line up could hit the car street by 2013-2014 boasting of a similar eight-speed ZF hybrid transmission to petrol-electric engines.
It is likely that the new hybrid models might come sporting an electric motor, a lithium-ion battery pack, and a small petrol (or diesel) engine generator. This could mean that as soon as the batteries run out, the engine would turn on to recharge them and simultaneously provide power to the electric motor.
Made to snip emissions, the hybrid Jaguars are being eagerly awaited as the company has begun developing the unique machines that should hit the tarmac in a couple of years’ time.
