Of late, there has been a growing awareness in Taiwan’s furnishing industry of the need to protect the environment. As a result, more and more manufacturers of home and office furnishings are coming out with eco-friendly products that are either biodegradable or can be recycled.
Taiwan’s furnishings-makers are now increasingly using fibre, processed paper, and wood to make items with innovative designs. And, in the process, they are attracting pro-green consumers at home and overseas.
One of such prominent firms is Green Life Paper Furniture Company, which was founded about 35 years ago. For long, it used to produce corrugated paper cartons for food-processing companies.
In 1995, Green Life Paper Furniture Company introduced its innovative Beili green fibre-board pallets for Taiwan’s IT and telecom industries. It was in 2006 that Green Life diversified into producing eco-friendly furniture, using 100% recycled paper. Now, the company makes a variety of green furnishings, including tables, chairs, bookshelves, cabinets, stands for television-sets, computer desks, jewel boxes, and also curtains.
According to Kuo Hsin-chih, chairman of Green Life Paper Furniture Company, all the products that the firms make meet the requirements of the European Union’s SGS tests to ensure that they are non-toxic and free of formaldehyde.
The company claims that its green furniture items are not only “natural,” environment-friendly and health-oriented but also attractive, easy to assemble (no nails needed) and waterproof.
